[intro]More new old retro games, again, revistied[/intro]Squit-squirt, squit-squirt, squit-squirt… That’s the sound of Capcom milking their back catalogue. OK, maybe that’s a bit harsh. What we actually have here is Volume 2 of the Capcom Classics Collection, on PS2. We’re talking late 80s here, during which time Capcom created more than a few decent coin-ops: Ghosts ’n’ Goblins, Ghouls ’n’ Ghosts, Forgotten Worlds and Bionic Commando are some of my all-time faves. But they were all used up on Volume 1, so what’s left?

My personal picks of the 20 games on offer are the platformer Black Tiger (pictured), shoot ‘em up Side Arms and futuristic slasher Strider. I was never a Street Fighter fan :-o but that’s also here in its original incarnation, along with Street Fighter II Turbo. And the rest? 1941, Avengers, Block Block, Captain Commando, Eco Fighters, Knights of the Round, The King of Dragons, Last Duel, Mega Twins, Magic Sword, Quiz & Dragons, The Speed Rumbler, Three Wonders, Tiger Road and Varth. Fun as they are, experience tells me this might be better suited to an overnight rental than an outright purchase. Remember, these games were only designed to keep punters entertained for about five to ten minutes at a time.

Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2 is released on 13 April.

Horganator out.
