We said 'Ixus' in front of the mirror three times this morning and, lo, look what appeared.

Not one, not two, but three brand new Ixus. Leading the charge is the 970 IS. Those last two letters denote a nice optically image stabilised lens but don't reveal that it also has a stonking 5x zoom. Sadly it's not wide-angle for group shots and tight spots but it does mean you get more at the telephoto end for sports and covert papping.

One nifty addition is enhanced face detection which can now spot up to 35 mugs in a crowd and then be told to track just one - ensuring your main subject stays perfectly sharp and the random stranger in the background becomes just another poorly exposed blob.

Joining it are two dinky new additions straight from the Ixus design school of old. Both boast 3x zooms, 10MP sensors and the same face tracking ability as the 970.

The Ixus 90 IS (pictured) also gets a massive 3in screen to dominate the back of its pack-of-cards-sized body, while the two-tone silver and black Ixus 85 IS settles for just 2.5in of screen real estate.

They'll all be out in the next few weeks. Now if we could just prise them from the hands of this Candyman fella...
