Canon’s mission to drag down DVD camcorder prices to new bargain levels shows no sign of slowing – just two weeks after it unveiled a trio of cheap new models, this entry-level number has emerged from its bunker to make them all look like fools.

The DC95 is being pitched as a family camcorder, and the £300 price tag will certainly go down well with parents who are splashing large chunks of their income on Lego and babygrows.

It’s naturally no 30GB, 3CCD JVC Everio – this is a simple, technophobe-friendly shooter with a suitably unfussy spec list. It records straight onto DVD, and gives you one-button access to 16:9 widescreen shooting or old skool 4:3.

Like its higher-end brother, the DC100, it also has a 25x zoom, a built-in protective lens cover and sports a 2.7in LCD to help you frame your YouTube-bound videos. Interested? It’ll be making its debut with more info on Canon’s site next week.
