At Canon’s recent Expo event in Paris, the company revealed that it has teamed up with Toshiba to market SED TVs. These Surface-Conducting Electron-Emitting Displays make the implausible claim that they will be similar in size, yet better and cheaper than rival LCD and plasma screens. Toshiba will have SED displays on the shelves sometime next year, but Canon’s won’t arrive until 2007. The factory is still being built, you see. We were in Paris, and saw an SED engineering sample standing confidently next to a slightly sorry-looking LCD and plasma. We look forward to rolling a proper review sample into the Stuff labs next year, and giving it an objective dressing-down.There’s a properly technical looking introduction to SED here.
