Canon cameras focus on your friends

New facial recognition system ignores strangers to get the best shots of your pals

Canon's new PowerShot G1 X and IXUS cameras have a new feature called Face ID that gives your friends preferential treatment.

As well as being able to tell between adults' and children's faces, the new facial recognition system will concentrate on the faces of your friends.

The details of up to 12 of your buddies or family members (or your favourite celeb, just in case) can be stored on the camera, including pictures from different angles to assist recognition.

Then the camera will give the VIP treatment to your friends and family, ignoring strangers and passers-by who would otherwise threaten to steal focus.
