Blockbuster is leaping aboard the movies on-demand bandwagon big-style with a new box that lets you rent movies without stepping outside your living room.
The MediaPoint hooks up to the Internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and lets you download movies from Blockbuster's OnDemand catalogue.
Films start at around $2 (about £1.30) a pop, but you get 25 advance rentals when you make the $99 (£65) payment for the box. And from the prices we've quoted you might have guessed that the MediaPoint is US only at present.
Socket-wise it comes with HDMI and component video outputs for hook-up to your TV or projector (we reckon a UK version would possibly swap the component for a Scart), both of which support hi-def.
There are also analogue stereo and optical digital audio outputs, the latter of which suggests surround sound is also on the menu.
We'll let you know if and when the MediaPoint will make the trip across the Atlantic. In the meantime, lazy/agoraphobic film fans will have to use one of the many online DVD rental services to get their shut-in movie fix.
