BlackBerry’s BBM Music to get secret launch party

RIM’s music service is ready to take the leap of faith

BBM Music looks set to make an impression on Tuesday evening with an exclusive launch at a secret London venue featuring a live performance by Jessie J. The service – which is currently in a closed beta – has the backing of all four major record labels, pitting it toe-to-toe against Amazon MP3, Google Music and Apple iCloud.

The service offers users access to 50 songs for US$5 a month (UK pricing is expected to be revealed), as well as the ability to access all the tracks on a friend's BBM profile. Ten million songs have so far been licensed by the record labels, ensuring that even the most eclectic of musical tastes should be catered for.

The event follows the previous launch of three new Blackberry 7 devices – the Bold 9900, the Torch 9850 and Torch 9810 – all of which will be juiced up with the new BlackBerry 7 OS. Stay tuned for the news as it happens.
