It was possibly the worst kept secret of the year but as we, and everybody else predicted, Microsoft is to launch a new and improved black Xbox 360.Answering to the name 'Elite' it'll slot in above the existing Premium and Core packs, ready to do next-gen battle. To bring it up to the PS3 mark it gets an HDMI slot (finally), a 120GB hard drive (neatly doubling Sony's capacity) and, of course, an HD DVD drive and Wi-Fi.Except that, er, it hasn't got those last two. Both Microsoft's hi-def drive of choice and basic wireless networking are missing from the Elite box. Adding them will bump up the price by nearly £200, and worse still, unlike all other accessories there's no sign of a black HD DVD drive. While we're still waiting on the UK deets, indications from the States are that an Elite box plus all the accoutrements will end up costing $190 more than a 60GB PS3. Whoops.
