The biggest tech milestones of 2013

Here's what we still have to look forward to in the 2013 tech launch calendar

CES and MWC are behind us already, but some of the most exciting launches of the year are still ahead. Brace yourselves, and your wallets, for 2013's tech milestones.

Xbox Infinity

The new Xbox which now looks to be dubbed Xbox Infinity is rumoured to be making its debut appearance at E3 in June. But with Bungie's Destiny game – seemingly the perfect launch title – not scheduled to come out until next year, we've got all fingers crossed that Microsoft can keep up with Sony's PS4 release schedule for a 2013 launch. iPad Mini Retina

Apple's 7.9in tablet has only been around a few months but as usual we're already looking ahead to an upgrade. The most likely spec to get pimped is the screen resolution, and with murmurs from Chinese component manufacturers to this effect, we're looking at a 2048 x 1536 display with 324ppi.

iPhone 6

Another year, another iPhone, and the 6 is on its way, or could it be the 5S? With rumours of a fingerprint scanner built into the home button, and the possibility of an iPhone Mini ever present. But how will it match up to Samsung's new baby (see below)?

Samsung Galaxy S4

The most nailed-down new tech release on this list, the Galaxy S4 has some big shoes to fill thanks to the Galaxy S III being such an iconic smartphone. Don't forget it picked up the gongs for both Smartphone of the Year and Gadget of the Year in the 2012 Stuff Awards. Keep it locked to for coverage of the S4 launch on 14 March and check out what we're expecting in our Samsung Galaxy S4 rumour roundup.

Return of the Nok

Nokia may have fallen from the number one spot long ago, but we've patiently been waiting for it to rise again ever since. 2013 could be the year if finally turns it around. Showing gutsy innovation, we're hoping that the rumoured Pureview Windows Phone 8 smartphone with 41MP camera comes to pass. While we're there, a lovely Nokia tablet based on the styling of the lovely Lumia 920 would also do nicely, thanks.
