Big-zooming SP-560 leads nine new Olympus cams

It may be months ‘til Christmas, but Olympus has dropped round today with a huge sack of presents and taken the wraps off an unholy nine new models.Top of the large pile is the monster 8MP SP-560 UZ (pictured) that takes over from the SP-550 UZ with a frankly rude 18x optical zoom and a 27mm wide-angle lens – an absolutely killer combo for one so, relatively, small. Dual Image Stabilisation is on hand to tackle the inevitable camera shake and it now gets obligatory face detection.Wanting to linger but instead moving swiftly on, we come to the latest hard man in the [mju:] range, the 7.1MP 790 SW. It'll handle falls of 1.5m, underwater plunges down to 3m and temperature drops down to -10C. It keeps the standard 3x optical zoom but gets face detection and the zippy new TruePic III image processor. Next! And on, to three other new [mju:]s, the 8MP 820 and 830 and 12MP 1200. As usual they're all weatherproof and now get face detection and 5x optical zooms.  The 830 adds Dual Image Stabilisation while the 1200 gets Nikon-esque Shadow Adjustment Technology to even out exposure.Last but not least it’s the budget FE 270, 280, 290 and 300. The 300's the one to look out for with a stonking 12MP for a mere £200. Now if you'll excuse us we need to be where there are no more cameras.EssentialsOlympus SP-560 UZ, [mju:] 790 SW, 820, 830, 1200, FE 270, 280, 290, 300Price: £350, £200, £180, £250, £270, £100, £140, £170, £200On sale: September/October Contact: OlympusRelated stories:Canon debuts octuplet of new cams
