Don't worry - 2009 isn't going to see you throwing your 1080p TV in the skip because it's about to become obsolete. But it is time to look to the future.

Both 2160p (Quad HD) and 4320p formats (Super Hi-Vision, or Ultra HD) are in development. Were they lying about 1080p being 'full-HD?'. Neither techs are expected to reach us mere mortals before 2015 though, so it looks like we’ll have to stick with vanilla HD for the London Olympics.

Don’t forget about sound, either – 22.2-channel surround sound with upper, middle and lower banks of speakers is promised. That lounge of yours is going to get crowded pretty quickly.
