Nabaztag, the (not so cuddly) rabbit showed the world that RFID didn’t need to be scary privacy invading stuff.

2009 is going to see the tech evolve that bit further with smart objects. Both Violet Mir:ror and TikiTags are ways of letting you tag an everyday object with an RFID chip. Move that object near a reader to automatically start a pre-arranged action. For example, put your keys on the desk, and an email will automatically go to your partner saying you’re home. It’s going to be big in 2009.

Also money isn’t going to be a problem in the coming year. Well, getting hold of it might be, but shifting it around is going to be made easier by services like VISA Paywave, which offers nearly-instant sub-£10 payment in affiliated retailers, or by Beem which lets you pay for stuff and make quick cash transfers with other Beem users via SMS.

Makes it even easier to spend that hard earned cash – actually, is that a good thing?
