The ‘10MP compact’ headline is starting to become as common as ‘Pete Doherty chucked in police cell’, but that hasn’t stopped BenQ from trying to get some limelight with this new snapper. We’ll be frank with you from the start. The C1000 does very little to lift itself above the rest of eight-strong 10MP clan, which includes such luminaries as Samsung and Olympus. The sensor should guarantee A2-sized prints, but the rest of the spec is the standard list of ‘3x optical zoom’, 2.4in screen and 30fps, MP4 videos’.Indeed, the lack of extras such as a bundled SD card to go with the four-shot burst mode suggests that - when official pricing is announced - it’ll be competing at the bargain end with Polaroid rather than big boys like the fantastic Samsung NV10.Still, if you think all this 10MP malarkey is overblown hype, you might want to check out the C1000’s brothers. The 5MP C540 and 7MP C740 are dead ringers for their sibling, but bump up the LCD to 2.5in and have an ISO rating of 1000 for night-time antics.
