When Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in his Bell-X1 jet way back in 1947, we bet he never dreamt he’d have a set of portable speakers named after his feat.

We’re slightly sceptical that the SonicBoom speaker dock from GEAR4 will equal the power of a real sonic boom, but we’re not going to blame them for trying to ‘big themselves up a bit’ as the kids say.

The 2.1 stereo speaker system is designed for your PSP but will accept iPods and other MP3 players with a standard headphone jack, via the 2m long ‘freestyle’ cable that plugs into the front. That means you don’t always have to dock your PSP to use the speakers, but can play it remotely.

You’ll get 2.4W per channel and the dock also charges and boasts a sub-woofer with the grandly-monikered ‘ActiveBassT’ technology, which it claims help deliver ‘truly awesome sounds’. The words of Chuck himself, no doubt.
