BBC launches new homepage

Auntie gets an online makeover to reinforce its mastery of the digital age

The BBC makes us proud to be British when it comes to its online efforts. And judging from the new beta BBC homepage launched today, it's putting our TV Licence fees to good use. The BBC beta site has added oodles of visual candy, including an iPlayer-esque carousel with top news and sports stories, plus featured on-demand TV. Simple filters and sliding drawers let you tailor the site to your interests – with as little or as much appearing as you fancy. It's even working on a local newsfeed based on your whereabouts. There’s no doubt this visually attractive, image-led bar-raiser was built from the ground up with tablets and smart TVs in mind. But the best bit: it has to be the old-school Beeb analogue clock ticking away in the corner.
