Owners of Nintendo’s best–selling console can get hold of a slew of BBC content online as of today.
Announcing the hook–up at an industry shindig, Auntie’s Group Controller for Future Media and Technology, Erik Huggers, “The BBC’s catch-up TV service can now be accessed on an increasing number of different platforms – from the web and portable devices to gaming consoles. It will shortly be available on TV.”
There was no mention of the growing stand–off with ISPs, thanks to British gogglebox lovers getting their fill of Eastenders and Young Mums’ Mansion on the web service.
Wii owners will be greeted by a message telling them the service is live when they fire up their hubs later. Sure beats that dodgy news channel and the complete lack of WiiWare on these shores.
The move comes after the BBC confirmed they’d be bringing the iPlayer to the iPhone, with plans for a tie–in with Virgin Media also in the offing.
