The last few months have seen the rise of the ‘premium netbook’. But while blowing £400 on the S101 may seem a little extravagant, Lidl fans will pleased to hear that Asus is working on a £130 Eee PC for early next year.
According to an Asus spokesperson, the astoundingly cheap netbook could even make its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas in January, ahead of a launch in the first few months of 2009.
What remains a mystery is, well, everything else. Short of being made built from polystyrene cups, it seems likely that the price will be kept down with a 7in screen, although Asus has mooted that most people find these too small for web browsing.
Elsewhere, you can expect a Linux engine, Wi-Fi and maybe the odd USB port if you’re lucky. We’ll bring you official deets when we get them.
Price: $200 (£130)
On sale: early 2009
