Asus prepping Eee PC HD

Like a colony of rabbits after a plate of viagra-laced oysters and a Marvin Gaye record, Asus's Eee PCs just can't stop multiplying. What once started

Like a colony of rabbits after a plate of viagra-laced oysters and a Marvin Gaye record, Asus's Eee PCs just can't stop multiplying. What once started out as a lone mini marvel now has more sequels than Police Academy.

The latest to get the OK from Asus quality control is the 904 HD – and it's due to ship out to the shops in a matter of weeks.

Despite the HD moniker, we're not looking at a hi-def-packing Eee PC with Blu-ray, Full HD resolution and HDMI for outputting flicks to your plasma. No, rather confusingly it merely refers to the hard drive that's nestled inside the Eee PC's guts instead of the solid state memory of the original version.

The 904 HD will come wearing the same jacket as the 1001, with an 8.9in screen but a keyboard that's been stretched to full laptop size. Unfortunately, that's all Asus would let slip at this time, with no news on the hard drive's capacity or which OS it'd be running.

What we do know, however, is that the 904 HD will slot in comfortably as the cheapest Eee PC of the lot at just £250 and while the price on these little laptops stays so low we can only hope Asus keeps copulating.
