Tired of making laptops with Lambo and Prada badges, Asus has unveiled its first ever machines for hardcore gamers with deep pockets.Eyeing up Alienware's LAN-party invitations are the 15in G1 (pictured) and 17in G2 packing Core 2 Duo processors, up to 160GB hard drives and up to two gig of RAM. Graphics are taken care of either by Nvidia's latest GeForce Go 7700 with 512MB of memory, or ATI's 512MB Mobility Radeon X1700, two extremely capable performers. But while we're drooling over the specs, we're positively fawning over the extra gaming touches Asus has bountifully bestowed. The keyboard gets specially highlighted W, A, S, and D keys, while an extra OLED display above the Esc key shows useful info such as instant messages of VoIP caller IDs, usually obliterated by full-screen games. Illuminated LED strips in green or red react to on-screen action while surround sound is attempted with speakers mounted on the front and sides. There's no pricing info yet but don't expect all these hardcore additions to come cheap.
