Asus has just lent its hand to the endless tug of war with Blu-Ray with two HD-DVD equipped laptops.

Announced at the Computex show in Taipei, the 17in W2J and 15.4in W1J are new versions of the existing W range (above) and both feature the next-gen drive, which can read huge 30GB discs capable of storing HD films and a ridiculous amount of standard-def content.

Both laptops are, naturally, Intel Core Duo powered, have between 80-120GB hard-drives and sport all of the connectivity you’d expect with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and an HDMI port for hooking up to your LCD.

According to The Register, the 17in W2J also fancies itself as a portable TV with analogue and digital tuners on-board, and a subwoofer to provide some bass.

Asus told us that it is expecting details on pricing and availability for both early next week, so we’ll update you then. For more info on its W predecessors go to Asus global site.
