So, your study contains a library of leather-bound books and your house is permeated by the smell of rich mahogany – what laptop could possibly fit into such exclusive surroundings? Allow us to introduce you to a possible contender, sir – Asus’ new leather notebook.
Not surprisingly, the S6 is the world’s first cowhide-clad lappie, and will be available in no less than six colours, including a garish ‘Derek Trotter’ pink.
It’s not the sort of cheap knock-off you’d find in the back of Trotters’ Independent Traders’ three-wheeler though – each S6 is apparently unique as the leather is hand-pressed with its own texture, and an accompanying presentation box contains a protection case and, of course, a leather mouse.
Beneath the cowhide is a powerful slab of mobile computing – Intel’s dual core processor supplies the brains, and a 100GB hard drive, integrated Wi-Fi and a DVD player back it up with some multimedia muscle.
The 11.1in WXGA display might be lacking in screen estate, but Asus’ anti-glare tech – which it says evaluates every pixel and adjusts it according to the surroundings – promises to give your eyeballs an easy ride.
Don’t pull out your Amex Gold card just yet though – the S6 range isn’t due for release until mid-April, and no price has been set. We’ll keep you posted – until then you can go to Asus’ UK site to get acquainted with your local reseller.
