Apple's patent means you could soon be racing your friends in real time

One day you'll be able to show the whole world how fit (or unfit) you really are. In our case, it would be the latter

An Apple patent has revealed a proposed new fitness technology which would let you see your friends' performances in real time as you exercise.

Although the actual workings of the tech are unclear, it would appear that Apple is cooking up its own solution rather than utilising the Nike + range. One example of the proposed system is a treadmill with a built-in iPod dock and touchscreen.

Being able to see your friends' times, speeds and heart rates as you pound on the treadmill might give you a second wind when you're sprinting – but if you've got friends like Usain Bolt then be prepared for a crushing bout of de-motivation.
