Apple overtakes Google as world's most valuable brand

The Cupertino tech giant has pipped the big G to the post ahead of its iPad 3 launch later this evening

Apple has officially been named the most valuable brand in the world at a gargantuan US$70.6billion – overtaking its Android rival Google, which is valued at US$47.5billion.

The report by Brand Finance Inc shows that Apple's valuation is its highest ever to date, shooting it up from 8th place in last year's rankings straight to first place this year.

Good news for Apple then – especially ahead of this evening's iPad 3 launch where we expect interest in Apple to hit fever pitch.
