We always try and shield your eyes from the constant flow of Apple iPhone mock-ups, but these pics contain such a strong whiff of credibility that we couldn’t help but indulge for once.
The pics from US site Engadget contain all the hallmarks of a minimalist Apple ad campaign and show a phone that Steve Jobs wouldn’t be ashamed of flaunting onstage at one of his trademark launches.
It certainly puts the ROKR over its knee and gives it a good spanking in the looks department, and Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer did recently say publicly on the subject of music player-phone hybrids that ‘we’re not sitting around doing nothing’.
A few things do cast a shadow on its credibility, though. There’s no clickwheel (surely a cardinal sin for any Apple product), the camera is on the back (not good for video-calling) and it has been strongly rumoured that Apple will initially sidestep the mobile market and make a home Wi-Fi phone, which this doesn’t appear to be.
Still, you know what they say – a little speculation is always good for the gadgeteer’s heart, and we’ll serve up the hard facts as soon as they’re out of the white oven.
