Spies over at Techcrunch have been "reliably informed" that "Apple is in late stage negotiations to buy Twitter and is hoping to announce it at WWDC in June”.
Frankly, I think this seems like an odd move, firstly because Twitter CEO Evan Williams has managed to rebuff the big boys so far and has always fought stridently for Twitter's independence, despite an estimated value of $700 million.
Secondly, it just doesn't seem like a very Apple thing to do – Jobs and Co seem far more likely to develop something of their own or concentrate on hardware rather than try to buy out such a high-profile service.
Could this be the start of WWDC silly season or do you think it sounds likely? Have your say below...
