Bar charts and statistics may fill you with dread, but these figures from Nielsen are a pretty handy snapshot of the US smartphone market and the latest results for early 2011 show that nearly a third (31 per cent) of people crave Android goodness in their pockets. To be fair, Apple was only pipped by one per cent, but the real story is the momentum Android has gained, vaulting five per cent in popularity in under a year. RIM and Microsoft were less lucky, but with with BlackBerry’s PlayBook primed for launch and Windows Phone 7 joining forcees with Nokia, who knows what next year’s figures will show. Never have we been so excited by a spreadsheet.
