Android film rentals launched

Google opens up its YouTube rental service to the Android Market

Lovefilm was probably just kicking back with a crumpet, figuring out how to deal with the news that US streaming giant Netflix is wading its way across the Atlantic – and then it discovers that a little Android robot wants to come and play at the film rentals game too.

Not content to stream movies via YouTube and open up its eBook store to the UK this month, Google has just announced Movies on the Android Market.

Once you've installed the free Videos app on your Android phone or tablet, you can choose from around 1000 titles, most of which you can rent for £2.50 or £3.50. You've got 30 days to watch the film and 48 hours to complete it once you've started. Good news for Android movie lovers – bad news for HMV.
