Amazon launching ebook subscription service for Prime members?

Would you rather pay individually to keep books, or rent them?

According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is planning a Lovefilm-esque subscription service for ebooks. Its unnamed sources have claimed that Amazon is negotiating with publishers to release their titles under the service.

Open to Amazon Prime customers, who currently pay £49 for free delivery in the UK, or US$79 for free delivery and access to streaming movies and TV in the States, there would be a cap on the number of books a user could read each month.

Whether it takes off in the States, and then when it makes it over here remains to be seen, but the biggest hurdle Amazon faces appears to be convincing publishers that the monthly subscription model won't devalue the book market.

Have you got a Kindle? Would you be up for a monthly subscription over paying for individual books to keep?
