Acer A500 to get the Android 4.0 treatment

Acer's Android tab looks set to join the cool kids with an Ice Cream Sandwich update

Acer has just announced that its shiny A500 slate will be getting a dollop of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich come April.

The announcement, made my Acer Australia and New Zealand, isn’t very forthcoming with the specifics – so we don’t have an exact rollout date – but Acer has promised that we’ll find out soon.

As the announcement comes all the way from the other side of the world, it’s unclear whether Ice Cream Sandwich will be rolled out to A500 owners in the US and Europe at the same time. We’d be surprised if it isn’t, though.

The A500 ICS update follows hot on the heels of the Iconia A200, which got its first taste of the new Android OS very recently.

When we reviewed Acer’s A500, we felt it was lacking a stand out feature – could Android 4.0 fill the void?

In other news, Acer’s Iconia A700 – which debuted at CES – is expected to make an appearance at MWC in Barcelona to flaunt its 10in ICS-toting wares, alongside Acer’s new flagship ICS smartphone – the CloudMobile.

Of course, we’ll be in Barcelona breaking all the MWC news as and when it happens, so keep your peepers peeled and check back in with Stuff.tv for all the details.
