70in TV trembles earth, JVC laughs

Right, you better start now if you’re going to fit JVC’s new telly in your living room.

Put the three piece DFI suite on eBay, take your clutter down Oxfam and wield that hammer and crowbar to knock through into the next room: this 70in rear projection TV is a juggernaut.

As well as giving you the best talking point on the street and the perfect display for Simpsons-style Superbowl gatherings, JVC reckons its big screen wonder also has a very nice picture.

Well, it would, considering the HD-70ZR7 is powered by JVC’s very own D-ILA tech instead of LCD and DLP. The main reported benefits are better brightness, contrast and smoothness, though we’ll be reserving judgement until we’ve played a bout of the 360 version of Need for Speed on the thing. One happy side effect – especially in a nation of rising energy bills – is power consumption around a third of plasma tellies.

Naturally, it’s fully hi-def ready, with a 1280 x 720 resolution and HDMI port for that Sky HD box you, us and the world is waiting for.

This 70in giant is one of more than half a dozen televisions coming from JVC this year, including a smaller 56in rear projection one.

It’s due March and, although there’s no official price, is expected to cost less than £3.5K.
