Apple announced its move into the cloud, and Nintendo showed off the Wii U
June was a busy month for Apple fans, as Cupertino’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference rolled around – and with it the promise of tasty announcements to chew over.
The big announcement of WWDC was iCloud, the service which saw Apple wholeheartedly committing to the cloud with features including iTunes Match and Photo Stream. iOS 5 was also teased, promising to tidy up the iPhone’s notifications system and (finally) introduce Wi-Fi Sync and over-the-air updates. Apple didn’t neglect traditional computing, showing off OS X Lion – which promised to bring the desktop and mobile experiences even closer together.
Apple wasn’t the only one showing off an OS, with Microsoft’s Windows 8 appearing for the first time – like Apple, Microsoft emphasised that its new OS was geared towards merging the tablet and desktop experiences into one. Elsewhere, we got a first look at Motorola’s Xoom 2 Android tablet.
There was also plenty of news for gamers – Nintendo revealed the Wii U, its successor to the Wii, while Sony announced that its NGP mobile gaming device would henceforth be known as the PS Vita.
