13in Retina Display MacBook Pro incoming in late 2012?

Apple's eye-popping next gen MacBook Pro a bit too much of a beast for you? Looks like Cupertino's planning a 13in version too

Details of a 13in MacBook Pro with Retina Display have shown up in the benchmarking archives of Geekbench, leading hardened gadget hacks to believe Apple will announce this smaller offering by the time 2012 is out.

We were big fans of the 15in MacBook Pro's Retina Display, so much so we gave the laptop five stars in our in depth review despite its hefty price tag. But not everyone wants a 15-incher to lug around all day so we'd like to see a space saving 13in Retina Display MacBook Pro show up on the Apple Store before long.

The Geekbench score rating its processing power was much lower for this rumoured 13in Retina Display model, due to a reported dual-core 2.9GHz Core i7 processor paired with just 4GB of RAM.

Whether these specs are true remains to be seen but by the time 2013 is out we wouldn't be surprised if Apple rolled out the Retina Display for the MacBook Air too. We don't even want to think about how much that one's going to cost.
