The ASUS Republic Of Gamers’ line definitely doesn’t play around. With every new iteration, they’ll be stepping up their products with each and every iteration. The Zephyrus S GX701G is the best they’re offering this year, and might just be the best for quite a while now.

Right out of the box, the Zephyrus is 17.3 inches, with a great 144 Hz screen with good G-Sync, coupled that with the Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080, 16 GBs of RAM, and 1 TB of storage, Asus has provided with everything a modern gamer needs. This means from the moment you boot up the laptop, you’re in for some top-notch performance.

Whether you’re playing an online title like Apex Legends, or a triple-A single player experience like Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, the Zephyrus has got you covered. With all this high performing components at play, the battery can drain pretty fast if you’re not careful. Thankfully, there’s a built-in solution called Optimus Mode, that will optimise the laptop, allowing for a longer battery life and longer play time. The speakers of the laptop is great too, offering a loud and clear audio clarity. Controlling the volume is easy too, with it being a knob instead of buttons.

There’s a lot of space between the keyboard and the screen, which is where the cooling unit of the Zephyrus is housed. Asus really honed in on this cooling system, which features 12V fans and a number of cooling pipes. This ensures that the Zephyrus hardly heats up to an unbearable level, leaving you to a cool and smooth gaming experience, that is also really silent too.

However, this is where one of the biggest drawbacks lie. With the cooling system taking a huge chunk of space, this leaves us with a very small keyboard and an awkward touchpad. Most of the time, you’ll be mistyping a whole bunch of letters, and accidentally hitting the right key instead of the left mouse button. This can, of course, be mitigated with an external keyboard and mouse, though it kind of beats the purpose of it being a laptop in the first place.

With it’s really steep retail price of MYR 13,999, Asus isn’t just giving you a laptop and charger. The laptop comes with its own bag, a gaming mouse, and even a webcam. These extra goodies overall justifies the price, with the bag and webcam really being welcome additions to this already complete package.

Overall, the Zephyrus S GX701G is the perfect machine for the most avid of players. While we wouldn’t recommend it to be solely used as a portable device, it does the job if that’s what you’re really looking for. The best way to enjoy this beast is on a desk, hooked up to a bigger monitor and with the proper gaming peripherals.
