Xiaomi just announced its flagship Mi5 phone is now available in Malaysian stores, from official distributor Thorus. In a departure from the norm, Malaysians need to buy the phone at physical stores as it is not yet on sale on the Mi Malaysia store.
The only variant available right now is the one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It's powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor and despite its 3000mAh battery, weighs just 129g.
As for the rear camera, it is a 16MP OIS shooter while the front camera is a smaller 4MP.
It's a little surprising that Xiaomi hasn't made the phone available for online order and some users are already complaining that the variants with larger storage and more RAM are not available.
However, grey market or parallel imports have already been in the market for some time and are an option for those who want more flash storage. The disadvantage is that they will not be covered by Xiaomi's official warranty.
The phone will be available from 18 June and is priced at RM1549.
UPDATE: It seems the phone will be delayed, only arriving 25 June. Xiaomi made an announcement in a comment on its Facebook page, with a reminder that Thorus is the only official distributor of its phones.
