Xiaomi had previously said its Mi A1 phone would be getting the Android Oreo update in 2017. And it's just made that deadline, with the update starting to roll out in India on 31 December.
New update, new features
The Mi A1 was part of Xiaomi's Android One programme – a phone that ran stock Android instead of the company's own custom Android UI.
It launched with Android 7.1.2 Nougat in September, with Xiaomi promising that it would be upgraded to Android Oreo by the end of 2017.
India's first to receive the year-end rollout, but once the update hits local shores, remember that your Mi A1 must be updated to 7.12.19 to accommodate Oreo, which is version 7.12.29. The download is 1107.4MB in size and will include the December Android security patch as well.
With the update, the phone will have new features including a new Picture-in-Picture mode, smart text selection and auto-fill.
