Xiaomi recently held a naming contest on Weibo for their mega phablet despite nothing good ever coming of such a competition (remember Boaty McBoatface?).
Fortunately and uncreatively so, Xiaomi Max won. The newly christened phablet has been reported to come with a Snapdragon 820 engine and 6.4in QHD display.
And a recent leak of what looks like its front panel has put those numbers into perspective for us. What do we mean by that? Pick up your smartphone and look at your hand holding it. Now look at this photo.
That’s what 6.4in is going to feel like in-hand - one heck of a stretch. Just look at the panel is stretching the limits of the holder's hands, and that's just a panel without the added bulk of the rest of the phone.
Unless it was a child/midget holding the phone in the photo from Chinese site Baidu, we're going to venture that this plus-size phablet is going to be a lot to handle. The iPhone 6s Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 are 5.7in in comparison. Of course, the photo is not guaranteed authentic, but the capacitive buttons are classically Xiaomi.
We'll have to wait and see if the Xiaomi Max will truly stretch our appetite for smartphone size, or if we will finally realise that bigger is not always better.
