Lo and behold! HTC has been trying to keep the news under wraps, but the rumours are true; HTC’s just inaugurated its HTC Butterfly 2 Android smartphone for Malaysia.
The model was launched at a press event in Tokyo, and we were one of the first few to get our hands on the device. If you haven’t already gotten wind of the Butterfly 2, it’s basically a remake of the Japan-only high-end HTC J Butterfly. But it’s not the exact make with an altered name, some of its features are different.
“The HTC J Butterfly is one of the best selling smartphone in Taiwan and Japan and we wanted to extend that to other countries,” HTC product marketing senior director, Darren Sng, said.
As for its design, specs and build, a recent leak by @upleaks was pretty much spot on to what was revealed. Just like its cousin, the HTC J Butterfly, the unit will come in red, dark blue, and white. The red and dark blue units have a unified colour reflection glossy finish, while the white maintains a zen look with its white matt anti-stain finish.
How about its insides?
We can also expect it to weigh 151g, and boast a 5in, 1080p full-HD display, a 13MP duo-camera back snapper with dual-sensor setup, a 5MP front-facing camera, Snapdragon 801 SoC, 2GB RAM and an option of 16GB or 32GB of internal memory (expandable to 128GB). It will run on Android 4.4 KitKat and have TDD-LTE connection capabilities.
In addition, it’s packed with the standard HTC features such as Motion Launch, Sense 6, and HTC BoomSound, amongst others. Oh, and did we fail to mention that it’s also IP57-certified – meaning that the smartphone is water and dust proof (go ahead, we dare you to try dunking it in water).
HTC has yet to declare local pricing and availability details, but we think we’ll be seeing it here by the end of next month. Stay tuned, we’ll update the story as soon as we get more information of it.
