While it could’ve been an easy April Fool’s joke, Valve has put up an official product page for their upcoming virtual reality headset known as the Index. A teaser site was put up last week regarding this new VR hardware, but now we know almost everything we need to know on Valve’s latest endeavour.
We here in Malaysia may not have access to the product page for the Index just yet, but screenshots from abroad have revealed the contents of said page. Firstly, we get to see how the Index actually looks like, with a sleeker and less bulky build as compared to its contemporaries, the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The headset also has an open-back design, as well as having headphones.
The Index supports DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.0, and is recommended to be used with PCs that has an Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card or better. The headset will come with a regionalised power adapter plugs, two face gaskets, and a power adapter. Besides that, the Index will have its own set of “Knuckles” controllers, motion controllers similar to the Wiimote or the Vive’s controllers.
For now, this is all we know about Valve’s latest foray into the world of virtual reality gaming. As for what’s up next is a full reveal just before the pre-orders on May 1st. The Valve Index will be officially released on June 15th 2019.
