Netflix really hit the jackpot with adapting Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s series of comic books starring a dysfunctional family of superheroes. With their other superhero offerings like Daredevil and The Punisher leaving their service, it’s good to know that the Umbrella Academy are here to stay for season 2.
The Umbrella Academy centers around 7 extraordinary people, who were adopted at birth by a multimillionaire, Reginald Hargreeves, to hone their powers and save the world. The first season begins with the already grown up Hargreeves siblings seeing each other again after years of estrangement, at the funeral of their father. Together they must set aside their differences and stop the coming of the apocalypse.
Through the official Facebook page, Netflix has confirmed that they’ll be renewing The Umbrella Academy for a second season. The cast is set to reprise their roles as the Hargreeves siblings; including Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min. Additional casting news for season two will be announced at a later date.
Just like the first season, season two will also consist of 10 one-hour episodes for Netflix. Production will begin this summer in Toronto, Canada. While we may have a hint on where season 2 will take place due to the cliffhanger ending of the first season, it will most likely adapt the second series of comic books, The Umbrella Academy: Dallas.
