Twitter takes blame for trolls but blames Apple for loss of users

While CEO takes blame for poor handling of online abuse, why is it Apple's fault its user base isn't growing?

When it comes to trolls, Twitter has to be one platform that's been abused for the sole purpose of abuse and Twitter CEO Anthony Noto said in a memo to staffers that frankly, "We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls...and we've sucked at it for years."

He took full responsibility for Twitter's failing at it and also vowed that somehow, some way, "we're going to fix it." Not a great year for Twitter, as the social network has been in the news lately for a leaked internal memo as well as its latest Q4 financial results announcements.

New users slow in coming

However, Noto was not so quick to take responsibility for a fall in Twitter users claiming that iOS 8's appearance had shaved 3 million users thanks to a change in iOS 8's Safari. Apparently the Shared Links section no longer automatically showed you tweets from people on your accounts.

Another 1 million people also did not install their Twitter apps on their new iPhones. Maybe, they didn't install it on purpose?

Twitter currently has 288 million users but fell short by 7 million of their target. Which is why, perhaps it is going so far as to blame Apple for its user loss. Twitter's also been a busy bee - adding video to its service as well as finalising a deal with Google to show Tweets in searches.
