After the advent of Avengers: Endgame, the future of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe remains unclear, especially with key characters like Captain America and Iron Man exiting the franchise. Like those two heroes, Thor is also a key member of Marvel’s Big Three superheroes, and now we finally have confirmation that he’ll have another big adventure in Phase 4 of the MCU.
At the end of the Avengers’ final confrontation with the Mad Titan, Thanos, Thor heads up to space with the Guardians Of The Galaxy, accepting his destiny of being an adventurer instead of being the king of Asgard. There was definitely a build-up for Thor having another big adventure, but the ending kind of indicated that he’ll be a part of Marvel’s spacefaring ensemble, instead of his own solo movie.
The fourth Thor movie will bring back critically acclaimed director Taika Waititi, who directed the third Thor film, Thor Ragnarok, as well as being the voice and motion capture actor for Korg, Thor’s rock alien friend. With Waititi taking the helm for this fourth instalment, it’ll sure to have the same grand-scale humour that Ragnarok had, as well as Waititi reprising his role as Korg. Though this does come with one small caveat, as the Hollywood adaptation of Akira will be put on hold as Taika Waititi is also directing that movie. Though we’re sure more people are interested in Thor 4 then Akira.
Just like the rest of the Phase 4 Marvel movies, there is no concrete release date for Thor 4. At this point, the confirmed movies in this phase include the prequel Black Widow movie, Black Panther 2, Dr Strange 2, Shang-Chi, The Eternals, and The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Hopefully, we’ll know more as San Diego Comic-Con begins tomorrow, with Marvel Studios definitely revealing their future plans, as they’ve done with previous SDCCs.
