The question Samsung users might be asking: will their phones be getting the latest Android OS version?
For newer Samsung models, it's pretty much certain. Not so much for older phones.
Too bad for older models
Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge owners have begun to see the Nougat updates on their phones.
Sammobile has compiled a handy list for anyone who is curious about what phones are making the update list. Here's a list of phone and tablets that are pretty much certain to see the update coming, though the exact dates are uncertain.
- Galaxy A5 (2016 and 2017)
- Galaxy A7 (2016 and 2017)
- Galaxy A8
- Galaxy A9/A9 Pro
- Galaxy S6
- Galaxy S6 Active
- Galaxy S6 edge
- Galaxy S6 edge+
- Galaxy S7
- Galaxy S7 edge
- Galaxy S7 Active
- Galaxy Note 5
- Galaxy Tab S2
What about the Galaxy J series? The update might come to the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7, but cheaper devices such as the Galaxy J3 might be left out. There's also a possibility Galaxy Tab A tablets will also be updated to Nougat.
If you have a Galaxy S5 or older devices, then don't hold out for an update. Samsung typically supports device software updates for no longer than two years.
