Everyone knows that the biggest draw to VR technology right now is games. Samsung's made a new free download available in Temple Run VR. Basically the premise of the game is that you're running from things that will probably do very bad things to you.
Expect snow, ice, dangerous Artic Demon Monkeys and a lot of, well, running.
Could we hook a treadmill up to this?
Why Temple Run, though? Why not? Temple Run was a phenomenon when it came out - people just seemed to love the novelty of running in the game. Keep running, see new scenery and try not to die. Pretty much the premise of the average running platformer game, just that Temple Run will appeal to an already established fanbase.
So far, the Samsung Gear VR Innovation edition has been on sale in the US and through AT&T, but no news about whether the company plans to ship more units to more places in the world. Samsung has stressed though that this particular edition is more targetted towards a specific, very narrow subset - developers or hardcore enthusiasts.
If Temple Run VR is a hit, look for more fitness-centric applications of the Gear. We await eagerly a game where you can kickbox dragons to the death.
