Stylish, premium devices on show at Asus Zenvolution mega-launch

On show were the new Zenfone 3 phones, revamped Zenbook and stylish Transformer series

Asus Malaysia heralded the arrival of its latest devices in a big event that showcased not only its new Zenfone 3 phones, but a new ZenBook 4 and the Asus Transformer 3 series.

Super-sized or super-powered phones for everyone

A highlight was the Zenfone 3 Deluxe, the first smartphone in the world to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821. Besides the Deluxe, also on display was the Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Ultra, Zenfone 3 Max and the Zenfone 3 Laser.

The Zenfone 3 will likely have the most appeal to value hunters: offering a midrange price for a ton of features, including a 5.5in Full HD display, 16MP rear camera with super-fast autofocus, Gorilla Glass 3 at the front and rear of the phone as well as a generous 4GB of RAM.

For those looking for an alternative flagship phone, the Zenfone 3 Deluxe has an aluminium body minus visible antenna lines, 5.7in Full HD display, a 23MP Sony IMX318 rear camera sensor with OIS as well as electronic image stablisation (EIS) for video), five-magnet speaker and a generous 6GB of RAM.

You want to super-size it? Try the Zenfone 3 Ultra for size - same camera as the Deluxe but with a whopping 6.8in Full HD display,4GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 652 processor. For the more budget conscious, Asus updated its Zenfone 2 Laser and Zenfone 2 Max, with Zenfone 3 editions. Think slightly better specs at wallet-friendly prices.

Besides the phones, Asus also introduced a sleeker ultrabook in its Zenbook range, namely the Zenbook 3. With an 11.9mm thickness and weighing just 910g, the ultrabook can still support 16GB of RAM as well as an Intel Core i7 processor.

Its Transformer series also saw new models in the Transformer 3 and Transformer 3 Pro. The latter is obviously direct competition to the Microsoft Surface Pro series, with a 12.6in 3K display, support for up to 1TB PCIe SSD storage, 16GB of RAM as well as a 13MP rear camera. It also comes with its own cover keyboard and its own digital pen, the Asus Pen that can detect up to 1024 levels of pressure.

The lower-specced Transformer 3 has the advantage of being even thinner than its big brother at 6.9mm, weighing 695g while also coming with the Asus Pen. It can comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 500GB of SSD space.

How much for the goods? The Zenfone 3 Deluxe, Zenfone 3 Ultra, Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Max and Zenfone 3 Laser are priced at RM3299 (Snapdragon 821/128GB storage)/RM2599 (Snapdragon 820/64GB), RM2599, RM1499 (5.2in)/RM1699 (5.5in), RM799 and RM999 respectively.

For the Zenbook 3, expect to pay RM7999 for the privilege of owning one while the Transformer 3 Pro is going for RM6999, with the Transformer 3 going for a more modest RM3199.
