Samsung is said to be preparing to launch its mobile payment service Samsung Pay in Malaysia.
Maybank and Samsung synergy
A few selected retailers are rumoured to be beta testing the service, with a local launch likely happening soon - with the next few months.
Samsung employees are said to be beta testing the payment system at local retailers and Maybank might also be a partner, seeing as Maybank cards already started support Samsung Pay in Singapore since August 31.
Maybank will likely be followed by other local banks though Maybank's push into retail with its payWave and Maybank Pay makes it an optimal choice for Samsung to partner up with first.
Samsung Pay's appeal is in its compatibility with both NFC as well as legacy MST payments, allowing a means of storing credit card information securely within the app to enable purchases via smartphones.
Should the app take off, this could help Samsung get even more traction in the competitive smartphone consumer market, even with the recent bad press from Galaxy Note 7 issues.
