The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is official, in Thailand at least

It packs a mega screen but not-so-mega specs

Samsung doesn’t usually keep mum when it comes to its product launches – take its Samsung Galaxy Note 4 launch in Korea as an example; it made the debut, set a price for it, and created all that hype.

But sadly, that wasn’t the case for its Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 phablet. The device was quietly listed on Samsung Thailand’s website with no guns blazing, no announcement or even a press release.

Now, we know that the Galaxy Note is one of the South Korean multinational electronics company’s prized possessions but Samsung hasn’t been very vocal about how well its Galaxy Mega phablet range has done thus far. But then again, if it’s launching a second-generation version of the device, there must be some value to it.

Not so mega in terms of specs

As for its specs, it’s actually far from the rumours that surfaced a few months ago. Instead of the speculated 7in, the mobile device packs a 6in display (yes, an inch does make a lot of difference) in addition to a 1280 x 720 pixel screen resolution – so for those rooting an ultra-sharp display, sorry to disappoint.

Not much of its hardware has seen a massive upgrade as compared to its predecessor too. It sports a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM, an 8MP back snapper with LED flash and 1080p video recording, a 2.1MP front-facing camera, 16GB of expandable storage, as well as 4G LTE connectivity. The device will come out of the box on Android 4.4 KitKat.

Clearly, it looks to be a mid-range even though a price has yet to be set. We’re not even sure if it will be brought in to Malaysia or if it’s going to be just a Thailand exclusive device. But those details shouldn’t be too far away from now.
