Microsoft’s rumoured smartwatch has possibly become popular even before it’s been officially launched. Besides the fact that Microsoft’s got a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval for a cryptic “mobile wireless device”, it may have been featured in a recent Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode.
We’re not trying to read too much into the sci-fi prop but apparently, an unnamed smartwatch made it on to an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and since the Marvel Cinematic Universe-set series makes use of a bunch of Windows devices, word’s spreading that it could be our first glance at the purported mobile device.
FCC patent approved
What makes its debut even more convincing is its possible approved patent filing on FCC. Sadly, there aren’t any drawings included with the leak (Microsoft’s requested confidentiality for that one) but it does reveal that the wireless device will come in three sizes – small, medium, and large.
It also highlights that this device will have Bluetooth Low Energy radio in all three versions, which is something most commonly found on many wrist-worn devices more than any other mobile gizmo.
Last week Forbes predicted the Microsoft smartwatch will be health-centric, and will most likely be compatible with both iOS and Android devices. This relates to a previous report by Tom’s Hardware, which signaled that the tech conglomerate’s got a slim fitness band with a display on the inside of the wrist in its pipeline.
The holiday season is targeted as a launch due date, but we’re banking on more rumours to tide us through until its official release.
