As previously reported, it looks like Samsung has decided to hold off on bringing in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and choosing to prioritise the Galaxy S7 Edge instead. Samsung Malaysia has finally confirmed the preorders for the latter that will start from March 7 to March 11 from 12am.
The first 1,000 customers are getting a special deal, where they will get up to 20 per cent off the RM3,099 RRP if they preorder. Also included in the package is a 128GB microSD card as well as an additional year's extended warranty. Slightly disappointing is that there is no Samsung Gear VR included in the package, which might have tempered some disappointment about the Samsung S7 not being brought in (yet).
To get in on the order, all you need to do is visit the official Samsung Malaysia preorder microsite, pay an RM300 deposit and choose which colour variant (Black Onyx, Silver Titanium and Gold Platinum). as well as the store you plan to collect your phone from. Customers will also get the phone on March 17, a day earlier than the official Malaysian launch.
The site you need to bookmark for the preorder is here.
Specs-wise, the device is pretty much Samsung’s most powerful phablet at the moment. With a 5.5in 1440p dual-curved Super AMOLED display, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a 2.3GHz octa-core Exynos processor, 64GB of internal flash storage, 3,600mAh battery as well as a 12MP dual-pixel rear camera (with smart OIS) and a 5MP front camera.
The phone is also dust and water-resistant with an IP68 rating. With an all-metal body, the phone is larger than the previous S6 Edge without being as large as the S6 Edge+, offering a larger display and yet being pretty comfortable in the hand.
We're still waiting on the price plans being offered by local telcos and whether there'll be special bundled-deals being offered by Maxis, Celcom and DiGi or if U Mobile will also choose to join in the S7 Edge preorders.
