One prepaid SIM can give you both a Malaysian and an Indonesian mobile number in one

Useful if you spend time in both countries fairly frequently

A subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia and U Mobile, Telin Malaysia, has come up with a new Prepaid SIM that eases communication for Indonesians residing in Malaysia. The Prepaid SIM KartuAs 2 in 1 runs both Malaysian and Indonesian numbers, making it more affordable for users to call from Malaysia to Indonesia and vice versa.

The Prepaid SIM is sold at RM10.60, comes preloaded with RM5 on your Malaysian number and Rp 2,000 on the Indonesian number. You also get 5 minutes of free IDD calls to Indonesia upon startup. There are also bonuses as you reload, offering an extra 10 per cent of the top-up value as free credit, for example topping up RM20 will give you free RM2 of credit.

Call rates within Malaysia will be charged at 10sen/30 seconds while SMS rates are at 5sen/SMS for U Mobile/Kartuas users and 10sen for all other networks. Calls within Indonesia Telkomsel numbers will be charged at 9sen/30 seconds and non-Telkomsel numbers at 11sen/30 seconds while SMS for all countries including Indonesia are charged at 12sen/SMS.

There are also data plans that will give you a minimum of 150MB for RM5/day. This SIM card really does make communication via mobile a lot cheaper across Malaysia and Indonesia.
