Official: ZTE Nubia Z9 with bezelless display

ZTE's design is worth a second or maybe third look

Finally, the ZTE Nubia Z9 is here. The official launch earlier today was in Beijing and currently, we like what we see.

All that we have heard and seen on rumours of this phone was officially featured. The 1080p, 5.2” 2.5D panel bezel-less design that we have all been waiting to see is the main attraction. The screen is surrounded by a thin reflective bezel that helps create a magical illusion of an edge-to-edge screen. The bezel is only 0.8mm and uses clever optics to reflect the screen image. This is similar to what we will expect from the next upcoming Oppo handset.

The gestures function is called FIT and allows for multiple user gestures. For example, you squeeze(yes squeeze) twice and it will take a screen shot, if you swipe the with a finger on both sides of the screen upwards and downwards controls the brightness and by just simply holding your phone as you would when you want to take a picture (with both hands) and the camera app  simply turns on for you, ready to snap.

The Nubia Z9 measures 147.38 x 68.34 x 8.94mm with a flatback. The body is made of metal, making it look stylish and sophisticated and features a Snapdragon 810 SoC chipset. As for RAM, the phone comes in three versions, the Classic, Elite and Exclusive. Classic has 3GB of RAM and the Elite and Exclusive versions have 4GB and 64GB respectively.

What’s more is that the phone is fitted with Bluetooth 4.1, MHL 3.0, NFC and a 2900 mAh battery. The main shooting camera is a 16MP shooter with f/2.0 lens and optical stabilization. The selfie cam is an 8MP Sony Sensor and 80 degrees lens. The Nubia UI 3.0 features rich camera functions such as the Neovision 5.1 which will ensure crisp and exquisite image quality. The phone is also equipped with Dolby 7.1 surround sound, an AKM4961 Hi-Fi processor and biometric finger print reading technology. But the fingerprint technology is only available on the higher end versions of the phone only and it should incorporate sensors on both the power button and the volume rockers so that touching either will unlock the phone.

The ZTE Nubia Z9 is available for CNY3,499, CNY3,999 and CNY4,499 respectively and preorders have already begun in China.
